Norfolk Academic Guild (NAG) is a homeschool collective in Norfolk, Virginia, first established in 2018 by fifteen families working together to foster a secular, inclusive community of enthusiastic learners in academics and the arts. We meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a range of elementary through high school classes, and outside the classroom for field trips, competition, and travel.
Our quiz bowl players have been National Beta Club Champions, our students have been National Merit Scholars, our artists have been state and national champions, and our writers have been Scholastic Art and Writing National Gold Medal Winners.

NAG quiz bowl teams have competed at the high school, middle school, and elementary school levels, in regional and national competitions including PACE, HSNCT, MSNCT, IPNCT, USABB, the National History Bee and Geography Bee, and Beta Club nationals.
We were Senior Beta Club National Champions in 2017, 2018, and 2019, and Virginia State Champions in 2023.
Quiz bowl tournaments teach great skills beyond the acquisition of academic knowledge: listening, logic, dedication, stress management, teamwork, stamina, and recall.
CLASSES & MEMBERSHIP
The Norfolk Academic Guild is a secular, inclusive, vibrant learning community dedicated to providing intellectually curious homeschooled students with enriching educational opportunities beyond the traditional classroom. Through advanced coursework, innovative content, academic competitions, and collaborative projects, Guild members are challenged to think critically, explore deeply, and pursue their passions with purpose. The Guild fosters a spirit of scholarship, creativity, and leadership, preparing students to excel in higher education and beyond. By developing academic skills, mastering new subjects, and participating in a community of scholars, students in the Norfolk Academic Guild are empowered to reach their full potential in a supportive and stimulating environment.
Beginning this year, Norfolk Academic Guild will transition from a cooperative (co-op) model to a tutorial model. In this new structure, Norfolk Academic Guild provides the shared space, administrative support, and community framework for classes to thrive. Families pay a membership fee to NAG to pay the rent for our dedicated classrooms and storage space, and liability insurance for our academic and extracurricular programs. Tuition for individual classes is paid directly to the instructors who are hosted by the Guild. This arrangement allows instructors to set their own rates and structure their courses, giving families a wide range of choices while supporting a sustainable, flexible learning environment. We are excited for this new chapter and the expanded opportunities it brings!
